Microcosm

Our art installation consists of a set of 4-6 infinity lanterns, in which the glass panels are replaced with partially silvered mirrors to making them infinitely reflective. We hang the lanterns, ideally from some trees and the light from them subtly invites passerbys to investigate. Inside the lanterns, we have small artificial fires of various forms, emphasizing the ways in which fire adds both meaning and utility to our lives. Inside the lanterns are tiny clay people made by clay artist Kailey Ruiz (Dust Bunny Clay). The clay people are interacting with the little fires in various ways, for example sitting around a campfire, using a wood stove or fireplace, reading by candlelight, or forging metal. One of the lanterns contains a miniature of the event that we are installing the piece at.
